Perseverate or Persevere?
One is a trap, the other a map!
Two similar words that describe how we can face struggles, but they lead to very different outcomes.
Perseverating is time and effort with no change. It means replaying the problem, reliving the hurt, and staying stuck in a mental loop. Nothing progresses, yet energy is spent circling and dwelling on the issue.
Perseverance is the time, effort, and strategy required to make a change. It’s recognizing the struggle and choosing a way through it—learning, adjusting, and growing even while the challenge continues. It’s overcoming obstacles and not giving up to succeed or survive.
One keeps you in the suffering; the other carries you through it.
Change occurs when you take risks, shift your perspective, and move forward rather than in a circle.
To perseverate: Time + Effort = No Change
To persevere: Time + Effort + (X) = Change
What strategies (X) help you stop the cycle of perseverating and begin to persevere?
